Valerie Chouinard is a standout Mercyhurst College women's hockey alum. She left an indelible mark on the program from 2005 to 2009. A leader both on and off the ice, Chouinard helped the Lakers achieve an impressive overall record of 112-24-12, including four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament. Her tenure culminated in a thrilling run to the national championship game in 2009. One of only two players in program history to reach 200 career points, she achieved this milestone with a two-point performance in the national semifinals against Minnesota. Chouinard finished her career with 91 goals and 109 assists. Recognized not just for her athletic prowess, she was the CHA Student-Athlete of the Year in 2009 and was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team. During her freshman season, she took home several honors, including CHA Player and Rookie of the Year, as well as USCHO.com Rookie of the Year, solidifying her status as one of the most outstanding players in the history of Mercyhurst College women's hockey.
