Alexander played on the first two Men's Lacrosse teams in program history, leading the Lakers to a 14-10 record in the program's first two seasons. He graduated in 1998 as the program's all-time leading scorer with 118 points and was the program's all-time goals leader with 76. He finished in the top 20 in the country in scoring during both of his seasons. He still ranks in the top five in program history in assists (5th – 42) and points (4th – 118). He ranks seventh all-time in goals with 76. He was also the first men's lacrosse player drafted professionally, selected 11th overall in the National Lacrosse League draft by the Syracuse Crunch in 1998.

He went on to play 11 seasons of professional lacrosse after his career at Mercyhurst. He was the team captain for the Calgary Roughnecks in 2002 and served as an assistant captain for Portland from 2006 to 2009. His teams won three Canadian Mann Cup National Championships in 1997, 1999, and 2003.

Alexander was ranked ninth in the nation in scoring in 1997 and was also named Mercyhurst's Offensive Player of the Year that season.

The former Laker is considered one of the pioneers of the men's lacrosse program at Mercyhurst - a program that has developed as a traditional powerhouse year in and year out under head coach Chris Ryan.

In fact, Alexander becomes the first men's lacrosse player at Mercyhurst to be enshrined into the Mercyhurst Athletic Hall of Fame.
