Mercyhurst University Athletics

Tony DeMeo was the first head coach in the history of the Mercyhurst football program and remains one of the program's most successful coaches. Named head coach in 1981, DeMeo led the Lakers to its first win in program history on Sept. 5 of the same year – a 28-0 win over St. John Fisher. 

DeMeo was named the EIAA Coach of the Year in 1985 after leading the Lakers to an 8-2 record and compiling a 41-21-2 overall record during his seven-year tenure.
