Women's Soccer Travels to SFU Thursday; Hosts Stonehill Sunday

The Mercyhurst women's soccer team will split a pair of NEC matchups away and home this week. The Green and Blue will first travel to Loretto, Pa. to take on the SFU Red Flash Thursday at 4:00 p.m. They will then come home to host Stonehill Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
 
Previously from the Lakers
The Lakers played one match last week, traveling to New Britain, Conn. to face the Blue Devils of CCSU. The Lakers held the lead for most of the match, but two late back-to-back goals put the Blue Devils over the Lakers 2-1.
 
The Watchlist
Redshirt sophomore Maddi Cowburn scored the lone goal for the Lakers last week, scoring a header off a free kick from Madison Sievering.

Rylee Kumer stood tall in net, making a penalty kick save to keep the Lakers up 1-0. Kumer made six saves on 22 shots faced.
Sievering recorded three shots, two of which were on goal. Fiona Fraser also tallied two shots on goal. Freshman Tessa Peer had one shot on goal.
 
A Closer Look: SFU
  • SFU is 0-10-3 overall and 0-5-1 in the NEC.
  • The Red Flash found a tie in conference against New Haven.
  • Freshman Riley Kerr has notched half of the goals this season for the Red Flash with four. Three of these goals came in conference play.
  • Kerr has won rookie of the week twice.
  • Goalkeeper Emma Sawich has played every game in goal for SFU, garnering 104 total saves with a save percentage of 0.754.
  • Sawich has earned prime performer honors twice this season,
The Lakers and Red Flash have met eight times since 1986. Before last season, the last time they had met was Sept. 15, 1992. The Lakers  have a 6-1-1 record against the Red Flash and won their last matchup 3-1 in the 2024 season.
 
A Closer Look: Stonehill
  • Stonehill is 2-8-3 overall, and 2-3-1 in NEC play.
  • The Skyhawks found their two wins against New Haven and SFU.
  • They found their singular conference draw against Howard in their most recent NEC matchup.
  • Senior Hannah Anselmo has half of the Skyhawks goal this season, tallying nine so far.
  • Anselmo had a game high of three goals against SFU.
  • Goalkeeper Allie Sougaris has earned three prime performer honors.
The Lakers and Skyhawks met once last season in an NEC matchup. Stonehill won 3-0.
