Fiorillo's Goal Lifts Women's Soccer over New Haven in Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst women's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over New Haven at Saxon Stadium in their season finale, with the deciding goal coming from Isabella Fiorillo in the second half.

The first half commenced with the Lakers taking an early lead as Maddi Cowburn found the net at 5:36, assisted by Madison Sievering. The Green and Blue maintained pressure with several shots on goal, but New Haven's goalkeeper made key saves to keep the scoreline close. Annis-Clara Wright also played a crucial role for the Lakers, denying multiple attempts from New Haven, including a series of saves.

New Haven managed to equalize in the 37th minute with a goal after a period of sustained offensive pressure. The first half concluded with the score level at 1-1, setting up a competitive second half.

Mercyhurst began the second half with a pivotal moment as Isabella Fiorillo found the back of the net off a corner kick sent in by Sievering, breaking the deadlock and putting the Lakers ahead. Wright made several key saves following the goal to maintain the lead, denying multiple attempts from the Chargers. The Green and Blue closed the half with a robust defensive effort, sustaining their 2-1 advantage as the game concluded.

Wright recorded nine saves, securing a victory with only one goal allowed. Cowburn contributed with a goal from her single shot, which was on target. Sievering facilitated the offense by providing two assists and tallying four shots, three of which were on goal. Fiorillo netted the game-winning goal, converting her only shot on target.
