Greensboro, NC—The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced on Wednesday their All-Region teams for the 2022 season. Mercyhurst first basemen Josh Surowiec has been selected as the first team Atlantic Region first basemen while also being selected as the Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
The Williamsville, NY native had career year in his final season with the Lakers while also having one of the best seasons in Mercyhurst baseball history. At the dish he hit .430 this season which was tops on the team while also winning the regular season PSAC batting title. For most of the season he was in the top five in hitting in the nation while leading the nation for a short stint. While hitting for average he also used the longball and set a new program record while doing it. He hit 17 round trippers this season which breaks the old single season record of 16. He drove in a team high 56 runs while having an on-base percentage of .556 and a slugging percentage of .829.
He has now been named PSAC West Player of the Year, PSAC West First Team, D2CCA Atlantic Region First Team, NCBWA All-Region First Team and a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. The ABCA announces their All-American selections on June 3rd.
