Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst is getting set to finish out their first season at the Division I level this week as they close the season with a road series against Akron. The Lakers are coming off of a big sweep that helped finish their first season in the NEC at .500. They'll now be aiming to send their seniors off with a 20-win season as they look to build momentum for the next year.
Â
On the Diamond:
Mercyhurst has put together a solid season after a rough start.
Jayden Walker has nearly closed the gap with
Eric Chorba in batting average. Chorba is hitting .328, while Walker is now hitting .324. Walker has a chance to get the Mercyhurst Triple Crown this weekend if he can pass Chorba. Walker is already leading in home runs and RBIs. He hit his 12
th home run of the season in the Lakers' 4-2 victory over Le Moyne on Senior Day. Mercyhurst also has seven players with 20 or more RBIs as they head into their final series of the year. The Lakers are also still paced by
Jacob Bazala and
Aidan Kelly on the mound. Bazala is now 7-3 and has struck out 78 batters over 74.0 innings of work. He's taken just one loss since being credited with both losses to begin the season.
Aidan Kelly is close behind in terms of strikeouts. He's struck out 71 batters over 66.2 innings this season. Kelly has had three straight no decisions in his starts despite pitching well in all of the matchups.

Scouting Akron:
Akron is looking to close out a disappointing season on a high note this weekend. They're just 17-34 and have only won nine conference games. They've lost four of their last five heading into the series. They'll be leaning on Max Bowman to get them going on the offensive side of things this weekend. He's hit six home runs and hit in 34 runs. Jard Schaeffer leads them on the mound. Despite his 1-7 record, he's had a solid season. He's struck out 67 batters over 78.2 innings of work.
Â
Next Game:
The series will start tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The Lakers will play just three more games this season as the year comes to wrap for Mercyhurst Athletics.
