Indianapolis, IN.—The College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced the Academic All-District Baseball team. Two Lakers were named to the team for their work in the classroom and on the baseball field. Josh Surowiec and Jarrett Heilman both earned the honors, they are two of just 12 from the district to be honored. Heilman is one of two pitchers while Surowiec is one of five infielders.
Heilman finished his sophomore season with a 3.38 GPA in Business, while going 8-0 on the mound for the Lakers. He struckout 79 batters in 12 appearances while having a 3.05 ERA. In 62 innings on the mound he limited opposing hitters to a .212 average giving up just 48 walks. He has a WHIP of 1.11 while allowing just eight extra base hits. He turned in three complete games including a nine inning complete game win over East Stroudsburg in the PSAC Tournament. In that game he allowed just one run while striking out nine.
Suorwiec closed out his Mercyhurst career by having a career year on the field. He was one of the leaders on the team while getting it done in the classroom and at first base. He has a 3.75 GPA and has graduated with a bachelor's degree in intelligence studies and a master's in cyber risk management. The Williamsville, N.Y. native set a new Mercyhurst season record with 17 homers this season while also winning the PSAC regular season batting title. He also already been named a D2CCA and NCBWA All Region First Teamer while taking home the PSAC West Athlete of the Year honor earlier this month.
