Lock Haven, Pa.—The PSAC announced their all-conference awards on Friday along with individual awards. Three Lakers have been named to the PSAC West First Team while also having one player on the Second Tea. Josh Surowiec has been named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year after winning the regular season batting title.
Surowiec is playing his final season with the Lakers and is having a career year. In the regular season he had a .443 batting average which was the best in the whole PSAC and in the top ten in the nation. Along with the high batting average he hit a program record 17 homers while driving in 56 runs. Along with being Athlete of the Year he was the First Team First Basemen.
Troy Banks is the First Team Second Basemen in his final season in Erie. Banks was second on the team in hitting in the regular season with a .306 batting average. While playing in every game this season the Orchard Park, N.Y. native had 12 homers along with 40 RBI.
Matthew Gibson rounds out the first team for the Lakers as he was named one of the top outfielders in the PSAC West. He was fourth on the team in hitting this season with a .295 batting average while hitting six round trippers. He drove in 24 runs while mostly hitting in the leadoff position for the Lakers. He had a .401 on base percentage while having 12 doubles and two triples.
While the three first teamers are all in their final season, Chris Juchno made a splash in his first collegiate season. He has been named to the PSAC West Second Team, as a freshman he hit .284 while being tied for second on the team in homers with 12. He also drove in 24 runs while having a .629 slugging percentage and a .405 on base percentage.
The Lakers are in the middle of the PSAC Tournament as they defeated West Chester to open the tournament and East Stroudsburg in their second game. Mercyhurst was also ranked sixth in the final NCAA Regional Rankings on Wednesday, the selection show is Sunday night.
