Women's Soccer Falls to West Chester in PSAC Semifinal

Box Score

Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Women's Soccer falls to West Chester in the second round of the PSAC Tournament. Despite great efforts from the Lakers, the Rams won the game by a score of 3-0.

How It Happened

The Rams started the game well, applying pressure right from the kick-off and pushing the ball under the Lakers' goal. West Chester's Julia Raybold took a shot in the first minute of the match, but Maddie Elbro was right there to save the ball from going in.

In sixth minute of the game, the Rams charged forward with a great pass right behind the Laker's backline, as one of their players fell inside the penalty box. The game officials called it a foul which gave West Chester a penalty kick, and a chance to get in the lead.

Elbro read Alyson Cutter perfectly on the kick, as she dove to the left and bounced the ball out, but Cutter was there on the rebound, and netted the first goal of the game.

The Rams didn't slow down, as three minutes later they found themselves under the Laker's goal again and capitalized on another scoring opportunity. Jacqueline Hug received the ball from Cutter and extended the lead to 2-0.

The Lakers worked hard to minimalize the deficit, as Karah Van Horn tried her luck in 29th minute of the match, but her shot was saved by West Chester's goalkeeper. Both teams went into the break with 2-0 on the scoreboard.

The second half started with a lot of back-and-forth action, as the Lakers worked hard to get the ball out of West Chester's possession. Lauren Casey and Dani Hartman both took shots early in the second but they both missed.

Mercyhurst substituted a lot in order to bring new energy and push to make a comeback. Despite great efforts, they were unsuccessful and the game ended with a score of 3-0, after a late goal by West Chester.
