ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team and head coach John Arlet have announced that
Alexa Ream will join the Lakers as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.
"We are pleased to announce Alexa as our new full time assistant coach in the women's soccer program and the head coach of our developmental team schedule starting in the Fall of 2019. Coach Ream is a huge asset for us moving forward and we are very proud to have her. We feel both fortunate and confident that all current and future players in our program will greatly benefit from both the technical and tactical guidance Alexa offers. As a former PSAC player she understands the demands of the league and her experience at both the youth and collegiate levels were great indicators that Coach Ream fits the growth and positive direction our women's soccer program is heading. Support for women's soccer on campus is absolutely there and we couldn't be more thrilled," said Arlet.
Ream, a native of Jersey Shore, Pa., was the graduate assistant soccer coach at Wheeling Jesuit.
During her college career Ream played midfield for Clarion for two years before playing two seasons with Lock Haven. Throughout her four years, she played 4,939 minutes and was the captain of the Lock Haven team.
While at Clarion Ream started in 33 of the 35 contests that she appeared in while putting nine shots on goal. During her two seasons at Lock Haven Ream scored two goals and added one assist on five shots on goal. She started in all 35 games that she played in.
"It is with great pleasure and excitement that I accept the Assistant Coach position with the Lakers soccer program. The goals, objectives and ambitious plans outlined by Coach Arlet will ensure a very successful future. I am thrilled to be joining this 'on the rise' program, and I consider it a privilege to be joining such a motivated team of players, coaches, and administrators. I would like to thank everyone on the search committee for their diligence and hard work during the search and interview process: Mercyhurst University is a fine academic institution and I will work tirelessly to uphold its values and core traditions and beliefs. I'm looking forward to being a part of the Laker Family," said Ream.
