Chris Kupniewski placed second individually and qualified for the NCAA Championships while the Mercyhurst men's team finished in a tie for sixth at the three-round NCAA Atlantic/East Regional. The three-day tournament finished Wednesday on the par-72 Cobb Course on The Resort at Glade Springs.
Kupniewski carded a three-day total of 216 (69-73-74) -- an even-par score -- to end behind only John Clare of Le Moyne, who had a 215 (76-70-69).
Also for the Lakers,
Harison Laskey added a three-round score of 230 (78-73-79) and tied for 35th.
Les Lancaster,
Adrian Larsen and
Ryan Mehnert improved on each of their second-round scores by five, four and eight strokes, respectively. Lancaster tied for 57th with a 234 (73-83-78), Larsen tied for 68th with a 236 (78-81-77) and Mehnert tied for 91st with a 242 (82-84-76).
In team scoring, the Lakers totaled a team score of 913 (298-310-305) to finish in a tie with Shepherd. The Top 5, in order, was Dominican (899), Saint Thomas Aquinas (300), Charleston, W. Va. (903), Le Moyne (904) and Wilmington, De. (905).
