Lakers Drop Marauders, 1-0

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Sarah Slezak of the Mercyhurst College Lakers scored her second goal of the season today late in the first half to end the Lakers five game skid. With the win the Lakers improve to 7-9-1 on the year, while Millersville obtains a 1-15-1 record.
Mercyhurst tallied 17 shots in the first half of today's matchup while Millersville only managed two shots. The Lakers also held an advantage when it came to corner kicks, 3-1. The Lakers came out firing and within the first five minutes of play the Lakers managed five shots on goal. Freshman Perrin Kern ripped a shot in the 4th minute that hit off the post and kept the game knotted at zero. The four other shots were all saved by the Marauders goal keeper Taylor Suskie. Suskie made eight saves in the first half of play against the Lakers to keep Millersville a float. With six minutes remaining in the first half of play the Lakers finally broke through the defense of Millersville. Freshman Aina Torres centered a ball for Slezak who punched the ball into the back of the net with a perfectly timed sliding kick. The goal marks Slezak's first game winner of her collegiate career.
The 'Hurst shot the ball eight times in the second half totaling 25 shots for the game. Millersville shot the ball six times one of which was on goal but was saved by Laker goalie junior Rachel Griepsma. Griepsma has now made 85 saves on the year and holds a record of 7-9-1 in between the post. Kelsey Benson of Millersville accepts the loss and now reflects a 1-8-1 record on the year.
