Erie, Pa. – Five different Mercyhurst players scored in a dominating 5-0 win over Mansfield in a PSAC women's soccer match Sunday, Oct. 11 at Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Jamie Laturell, Taylor Hilinski, Jamie Schroter, Renai Medeiros and Paige McDowell all tallied for the Lakers, while Rachel Griepsma posted the shutout.

Mercyhurst controlled the game from the opening whistle, owning a territorial advantage while putting Mansfield on the defensive. The Lakers outshot the Mountaineers 17-3 during the first half and connected for three goals. During the sixth minute, Megan Macko activated from her defense position and found Jamie Laturell with a pass. Laturell turned, dribbling into the box before firing a low shot inside the right post for a 1-0 lead.

Jamie Schroter took a free kick from 40 yards away in the 18th minute. Her initial strike was saved by Mansfield keeper Samantha DeLiere, but Taylor Hilinski pounced on the rebound for a tap-in goal at 17:47. Her seventh goal of the season gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

Less than six minutes later, Schroter blasted a direct kick past DeLiere from 30 yards away for her first goal of the season and a 3-0 advantage, which stood through halftime.

Following intermission, Mansfield made an effort to generate chances, being outshot just 11-10 over the final 45 minutes. However, Mercyhurst added to its lead in the 51st minute. Renai Medeiros passed to Danielle Braun at the top of the box on the left side, and Braun played it back out to Medeiros, whose shot eluded Mountaineer keeper Alexis Wilhelm for a 4-0 Laker lead. The goal was Medeiros' first in a Mercyhurst uniform.

Paige McDowell gave Mercyhurst a 5-0 lead at 63:52 when she settled a pass from Heather Donovan and fired from the penalty spot, finding the upper portion of the net for her second goal of the season. The Lakers held off all attempts at goal, and posted their fourth clean sheet of the season, 5-0.

For the match, Mercyhurst totaled 28 shots, half of which were on target, while Mansfield attempted 13 shots and five shots on goal.

With the win, Mercyhurst is now 8-4-1. Mansfield hold a 3-9-1 record.

Laker keeper Rachel Griepsma made five saves for her second shutout of the season. DeLiere made three saves and Alexis Wilhelm stopped five shots for Mansfield.

Mercyhurst's five-goal performance marked the most goals scored by the Lakers this season and most since a 5-2 victory over Slippery Rock Nov. 4, 2008 in the PSAC quarterfinal round.

Griepsma and fellow goalkeeper Amanda John have each posted two shutouts this season, the first time two different Laker keepers have posted multiple shutouts during the same season in the last 16 seasons.

With Medeiros and Schroter tallying Sunday, 12 Lakers have scored at least one goal this season.

Schroter has tied Veronica Sansom for third all-time in program history with 29 assists. She has assisted on one goal in each of the last two games.

Laturell's goal was her team-leading third game-winner of 2009. Braun registered a point for the third game in a row, as she has recorded two goals and an assist in the past three contests.

The Lakers play their next two matches on the road, as they travel to play at Lock Haven Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. Mercyhurst beat LHU 3-1 Sept. 6 in their first meeting of the season.
