Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team battled wire-to-wire with Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling just short in a tight 8–7 contest at Saxon Stadium.
How It Happened
Mercyhurst came out strong with a first-quarter brace from Ryan Mahoney, including a goal assisted by Antonio Rossetti, to keep pace with the Dolphins in the opening frame.
Trailing 4–2 entering the second, the Lakers struck twice more with goals from Rossetti and Chase Petschke, cutting the lead to 6–4 at the half.
In the third, Mercyhurst edged closer with Rossetti's second of the day off a feed from Mahoney, making it 6–5. The final quarter was a flurry of action—Colin Tardif brought the Lakers within one again at 7–6, and Ethan Landymore scored with 6:19 to play to pull Mercyhurst back within a goal at 8–7.
The Lakers had multiple opportunities to tie the game in the closing minutes, including a final look with one second left, but Le Moyne's defense held on.
