LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst University Men's Lacrosse program is proud to announce midfielder Adam Schembri as one of the seventy-seven recipients for the inaugural 2026 Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award.
The award was recently established in January of 2026 by family and close friends of Liam Gleason and aims to recognize a student-athlete from each NCAA Division I men's lacrosse program who best exemplifies leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement. The honor is voted on by players, coaches, and staff, and is awarded to the individual whom teammates most aspire to emulate.
Schembri has become a respected leader within the Mercyhurst program through his daily consistency, commitment to others, and investment in the campus and Erie communities. A key contributor on the field for the Lakers, he has also made a lasting impact away from competition through his involvement with Mercyhurst's Little Lakers youth lacrosse clinics and community engagement initiatives.
In the classroom, Schembri was inducted into the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business, recognizing his academic excellence and leadership as a student.
"Adam is a first class human being," said Head Coach Trey Keeley. "He has developed meaningful relationships with his teammates, professors and those in the Mercyhurst community. He is the type of man others look up to because of his character, consistency, passion and charisma. We are lucky to have Adam as a key driver of our success as a program."
The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award celebrates the values that define collegiate athletics at its best, and Schembri's nomination reflects the culture of leadership, service, and brotherhood within the Mercyhurst lacrosse program.
