Moon Township, Pa. – Despite a strong start and a three-point day from Robert Madden, the Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team was unable to hold off a relentless Robert Morris attack, falling 17–8 in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
The Lakers struck first and held an early 2–0 lead after goals from Chase Petschke and Madden within the opening three minutes. However, the Colonials responded with a 6–0 run to close the first quarter, taking control with crisp ball movement and a dominant faceoff performance.
Mercyhurst bounced back with second-quarter goals from Madden (his second) and Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre, cutting the deficit to 7–4, but Robert Morris answered quickly to extend their lead to 9–4 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Colonials explode for seven goals, stretching their lead to double digits. Ryan Mahoney and Ethan Landymore each found the net for the Lakers in the second half, but the comeback fell short as RMU maintained control throughout. Josh Mills scored late in the fourth to round out the Mercyhurst scoring.
