St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Lacrosse team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 11-9 to St. Bonaventure on the road Tuesday afternoon. Despite a four-goal performance from Ethan Landymore and a late push in the fourth quarter, the Lakers were unable to overcome the Bonnies' balanced offensive attack.
How It Happened:
St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, with goals from Drew Kenney, Nolan Wilde, and Kellen Pulera. Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre got Mercyhurst on the board with an unassisted goal at 10:19, but the Lakers were held to just two shots on goal in the opening frame.
The second quarter saw an offensive surge from Mercyhurst, as Ethan Landymore scored back-to-back goals, followed by Antonio Rossetti and Colin Tardif, bringing the Lakers back from a 5-1 deficit to a 5-5 tie. However, St. Bonaventure regained the lead just before halftime with a goal from Conor Murphy, making it 6-5 at the break.
In the third quarter, both teams traded goals, with Landymore adding his third of the game off an assist from Phoenix-Lefebvre. St. Bonaventure extended their lead to 8-6 with a man-up goal from Pulera, but Ryan Mahoney responded to cut the deficit back to one heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter saw the Lakers tie the game once again at 8-8 as Phoenix-Lefebvre scored off a feed from Rossetti. However, St. Bonaventure answered with two quick goals from Patrick Shanahan, and despite a late goal from Landymore to make it 10-9, the Bonnies sealed the win with a final goal from Kenney at 1:30 remaining.
