Box Score Highland Heights, Ky.- Mercyhurst made the trip to Northen Kentucky on Sunday and fell 2-1 in their closest game of the season thus far. The Lakers had some stellar defense, but in the end the Norse's score in the 73rd minute proved to be too much to overcome and was the game-winning goal.
How it Happened
The match was a stale mate the entire first half. Although Northern Kentucky held a 15-3 edge in shots, the Norse couldn't convert. Graduate Student
Chelsea Radicia started in net for the Lakers and managed to save both shots on goal that she faced in the first half.
The second half shared a similar story. It came down to who was going to be able to put a point on the board first. In the second half, Radicia made another three saves before Freshman Caitlin Evans finally got a ball past her to give Northern Kentucky a 1-0 lead. The Norse added insurance with a penalty kick goal from Senior Lydia Self in the 86th minute.
The Lakers gave themselves a shot at a comeback with a little over a minute left when Sophomore
Camille Bultel buried a loose ball.
Highlights
The Lakers took a big step forward on Sunday as their defense was turned up another notch. Mercyhurst has been looking to have a good defensive game to build off of, and their match with Northern Kentucky is one they can certainly do that with. Radicia played the full match and registered seven saves. The Lakers also be looking to build on Bultel's goal in the closing stages of the match.
