Women’s Soccer Closes Season with 3-1 Win

Box Score Erie, Pa.- The Lakers had been looking for a statement performance in conference play and they finally got just that on Thursday night when they welcomed St. Francis to town. Mercyhurst dominated in their 3-1 win as they gave one final bow to the 2024 season.  
 
How it Happened:
Mercyhurst got things going early as they registered two shots in the first five minutes of action. The second of resulted in a goal from Senior Teagan Mehalko of an assist from Redshirt Freshman Maddie Sievering. The Lakers dominated the first half offensively until Lauren Pyle, the leading scorer for St. Francis, finally beat Senior Kate Costantini.
 
Mercyhurst made sure to make the second half count. Just two minutes into the second half, Graduate Student Emily Mijares buried her seventh goal of the season with an assist from Senior Karah Van Horn. Anna Clark put the final goal of the 2024 season on the board to seal the Lakers third conference victory and fourth ever Division I win.
 
Highlights:
The Lakers saw production all over the field in their final match. Mehalko finally put a ball in the back of the net with an assist from Sievering. Mijares scored the final goal of her Mercyhurst career to secure the team lead for the season with seven goals. Poleski assisted Clark on her first goal of the year. Costantini capped off her career with a 12 save performance.
 
Next Game:
Mercyhurst's 2024 season comes to a close as they finish with a 4-11-4 (3-4-3). The Lakers will return to the field in 2025 for their second year in the NEC.
