Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer is set to close out their first Division I season this Thursday, October 31
st when they welcome St. Francis to town. The Lakers have complied a 2-4-3 record in NEC play to this point, and will be looking to finish their first season in the conference with a big win.
Looking to Finish Strong:
The Lakers were unable to string together a win last week as they played to a 3-3 tie against Chicago State and fell 3-0 to Stonehill. Mercyhurst once again relied on their big playmakers as they fought to a tie with the winless Chicago State. After taking a 2-0 lead, with goals from Redshirt Freshman Maddie Sievering and Graduate Student
Emily Mijares, the Cougars scored three unanswered. The Lakers were able to tie the game late off of a goal from
Isabella Fiorillo. The game at Stonehill didn't go to plan either. Mercyhurst dropped the matchup in what was the ninth time they've been shut out in 2024.
Lakers Leaders:
Mijares leads the Lakers with six goals this season and Sievering is right behind her with five. Sievering has also tallied a team high five assists, as she leads Mercyhurst with 15 points. 12 different players have scored a goal and nine different players have recorded an assist. There are five players who played over 1,000 minutes this season. Graduate Student
Alyssa Poleski leads them all with 1,341. But Senior
Karah Van Horn, Fiorillo, Graduate Student
Chelsea Radicia and Sievering have all went over the threshold. Radicia needs just four more saves to hit 100 saves on the 2024 season.
Scouting St. Francis:
St. Francis has had a solid season and they've been consistent in conference play. The Red Flash are 4-4-1 this year in NEC play and will be looking to finish the regular season above .500 in that category. Lauren Pyle leads the team with four goals, but Raine Korpics and Alyssa Mella are right behind her with three a piece. The Lakers will be leaning on their playmakers to get the ball past the Red Flash goalie, Emma Sawich, who has allowed just 18 goals in 2024.
