Erie, Pa.- Coming off the heels of their first ever NEC loss, the Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team is set to jump right back into action this Thursday when they travel to play Farleigh Dickinson University. Before Sunday, the Lakers had back-to-back wins and were on a four-game unbeaten streak.
Looking to Build:
Mercyhurst has continued to have impressive play over the past few weeks of play. They've seen contributions from all over the pitch. Last week, the Lakers welcomed UMBC to town for a nonconference match and Senior goalie
Kate Costantini recorded Mercyhurst's first shutout of the 2024 season. That performance was good enough for Costantini to be named an NEC Prime Performer for the week of September 23
rd. Sophomore
Madison Sievering and Graduate Student
Emily Mijares continued their dominant stretches in the game as well, with each recording a goal and Sievering adding an assist as well.
Lakers Leaders:
Mijares leads the team with three goals in the campaign thus far, but eight players have gotten on the board this season. Sievering has had the most opportunites with 18 shots and eight of them on target. To this point, she has just one goal to show for it, but she's dished the ball better than anyone else. Her four assists lead the Lakers. Graduate Student
Alyssa Poleski continues to impress on the defensive end as nears 1,000 minutes on the pitch in 2024.
Scouting FDU:
FDU has had a solid season to this point. Coming into Thursday, they have 3-4-5 record, including a 3-1 record in NEC play. Like the Lakers, their lone NEC loss came to Central Connecticut State, but they've otherwise been dominant in the past couple weeks. The Knights have four players with multiple goals, but Marina Burzaco leads the way with three goals. Rosemarie Leblanc has started all 12 games in net for FDU so far and has played well, registering 47 saves and recording four shutouts.
Next Game:
Mercyhurst takes on FDU at 4:00 p.m. this Thursday, October 3
rd. The action can all be caught on NEC Front Row.
