Box Score O'Fallon, IL – After falling to McKendree in the final game of the season, Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo finishes WWPA Championships in sixth place. Despite great efforts from the Lakers, the Bearcats win the game by a score of 14-7.
How It Happened
Mercyhurst returned to the swimming pool to take on the hosts of the tournament, McKendree, in an early match to determine the final placement of the WWPA Championships. The Lakers started well, and after goals from Hanna Good and Sakura Gavin, the score was tied after the first quarter at 2-2.
The Bearcats stepped on the gas in the second, as they went on the four-goal scoring run going into the break with a substantial lead, 6-2. McKendree continued that in the second half as they extended the lead to 13-3 after the third quarter.
The Lakers tried to go on one more run, as Ava Gebhardt, Alexa Corrao, and Good all scored in the fourth quarter bringing the score to 14-7. It wasn't quite enough, though, as McKendree eventually took home the win, and the Lakers finished the tournament in the sixth spot.

Hanna Good and Ava Gebhardt led the charge with two goals each. Hannah Engquist also recorded a team-high two assists and Rachel Vlieststra registered three steals.
