SALEM, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team returned to action for day two of the Salem Invitational for matches against Salem and Gannon. The Lakers lost game one 18-4 to Salem, and game two 19-7 to Gannon.
Game One
In the first quarter, Salem scored four goals, entering the second quarter with a 4-0 lead ahead of Mercyhurst.
In the second quarter, the Tigers continued to bring on the offense and score five more goals. They led 9-0 entering half.
Within 19 seconds, freshman
Bailey Dunn got on the board for the Lakers, narrowing the deficit to eight. Just two minutes later, the Tigers were able to push their lead back up to nine. Fifth year
Alexa Corrao scored a goal, keeping Mercyhurst in the game. Dunn her second of the game, pushing the lead back down to seven. 20 seconds later, the Tigers respond with a goal to push their lead back to eight. They proceeded to score two more goals, but freshman
Adriana Boltes Moragues halted the scoring Tigers' scoring run with a goal of her own. After three, the Lakers trailed 13-4 after three.
In the fourth quarter, Salem continued their offense and scored five more goals, taking a 18-4 victory to end the game.
Game Two
In the first quarter, Gannon opened up the game with four goals, taking a 4-0 lead heading into the second.
In the second quarter, the Golden Knights brought their first quarter offense into the second with a goal, pushing the lead to five. Sophomore
Victoria Mastrangelo got on the board for the Lakers, narrowing the lead for Gannon. The Golden Knights proceeded to score four more goals, taking a 9-1 lead going to halftime.
Dunn continued bringing the offense from game one into game two, with a goal in the third for the Lakers. Senior
Krista Domaracki continued this momentum with a goal of her own, narrowing the lead to six. Dunn scored yet another goal for the Lakers, her second in the game and fourth on the day. Gannon went on and scored three more goals, taking a 13-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
Within the first 20 seconds of the fourth quarter, junior
Marley Hanlon got on the board for the Lakers, narrowing the lead to eight. The Golden Knights scored four consecutive goals, until senior
Eva Henneman was able to find the back of the net. Gannon scored back-to-back goals, before Henneman tallied her second of the game. Gannon took a 19-7 victory against the Lakers.
