Lakers Fall to Wolverines at Day One of CWPA Championships

Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Mercyhurst fell to of Michigan with a final score of 24-4 on Friday at Canham Natatorium. Despite the loss, the Lakers managed to score one power-play goal and one penalty shot.

Michigan dominated the early stages of the match, scoring six consecutive goals in the first quarter, with Harriet Dickens opening the scoring. The team continued its offensive onslaught in the second quarter, adding another five goals, including two from Emma Gustafsson, to extend its lead to 11-0. The Lakers managed to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Marley Hanlon converted a penalty shot, but Michigan maintained control with a commanding 18-1 lead by the end of the third. The fourth quarter saw the Lakers score three additional goals, but Michigan's Abby Schulz contributed two more to her tally, finishing with four goals. The Wolverines secured a decisive 24-4 victory, outshooting the Lakers 37-29.

Victoria Mastrangelo scored one goal on four shots and contributed with a steal. Hanlon also found the back of the net once, making her goal on five attempts while adding a steal. Bri Allstun tallied one goal in two attempts and was excluded once during the match. Krista Domaracki added a goal and registered an assist on four shots, enhancing the team's offensive efforts.

The Lakers return to the pool on April 11 at day two of the CWPA championship to face the Saint Francis Red Flash at 5 p.m.
