Women's Water Polo Prepares for WWPA Championships

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Water Polo prepares for the WWPA Championships hosted by McKendree in O'Fallon, IL. The Lakers are set to play Cal State East Bay in the first round of the tournament on Friday, April 28th, at 10:45 a.m.

With a conference record of 2-4, the Lakers finished third in the WWPA East conference standings. McKendree placed first with an undefeated 6-0 record, followed by Salem with 3-3 while Gannon is last with a 1-5 conference mark.

The Lakers are set to take on the second team from the WWPA West, Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers finished the regular season with a 4-2 conference record and placed behind Biola (Ca.) (5-1). Fresno Pacific was third with a 2-4 conference record and Cal State Monterey was last with a 1-5 mark.

Scouting Pioneers

The Pioneers boast a solid 14-14 overall record and have won a game against Fresno Pacific last Saturday. Luna Sarmiento leads the charge for the Cal State East Bay, with 65 goals and 20 assists on the season. She is followed by Jordan Jarandson with 41 and Rachel Heredia, scorer of 40 goals. Daniela Passoni leads her team on the defensive side of the pool, with 317 saves and 34 steals in the goal.
