SALEM, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team continued their season competing at the three-day Salem Tournament taking on the Saint Francis Red Flash. The Lakers fell short against the Red Flash with a final score of 18-3.
In the first quarter, the Red Flash had early displays of offense, taking a 6-0 lead going into the second quarter.
With just under six minutes to go in the second quarter, junior
Marley Hanlon scored a goal for Mercyhurst, narrowing the deficit to five. Saint Francis immediately responded, scoring seven more goals, taking a 13-1 lead going into halftime.
Saint Francis continued their momentum, opening up the third quarter with a goal. Freshman
Adriana Boltes Moragues scored a goal for Mercyhurst, keeping them in the matchup. Hanlon followed along with her second goal of the game. Just 23 seconds later, the Red Flash retaliated with a goal. They score another goal to take a 16-3 lead, heading into the fourth quarter.
Saint Francis scored two more goals, taking a 18-3 victory against the Lakers.
Mercyhurst returns to the pool tomorrow, March 28, for matches against Salem and Gannon. Their first match against the Tigers is at 12 p.m. and their match against the Golden Knights at 4 p.m.
