Mylan Park, WV – Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo falls to McKendree in their last regular season game. Despite great efforts, the Lakers lose by a score of 11-8 and finish with a 6-13 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark.
How It Happened
The squad returned to the swimming pool for one more challenge as they took on McKendree in an early matchup at 9:00 a.m. The Lakers started slow as the Bearcats jumped into the lead in the first quarter, 3-1.
They continued their scoring run in the second and eventually went into the break leading the game 6-2. The Lakers tried their best to answer in the second half, but despite their good offensive play in the fourth quarter, they couldn't do it. McKendree eventually won the game by a score of 11-8 and sealed their position at the top of WWPA East standings.
Sara Marin, Hanna Good and Ava Gebhardt registered two goals each as Sakura Gavin and Natalie Favazzo also helped with one goal to their name.
Playoff Picture
With the conference record of 2-4, the Lakers are third in the WWPA East conference standings. McKendree is first with an undefeated 6-0 record, followed by Salem with 3-3 while Gannon is last with a 1-5 conference mark.
What's Next
The Lakers now turn their attention to postseason play as they look to the WWPA Conference Tournament which takes place from April 28th through the 30th in O'Fallon, Ill.
