Mylan Park, WV – Mercyhurst Water Polo loses twice on the first day of the WWPA Conference Weekend in two closely contested matches. The Lakers fell to Salem by a score of 12-10 and Gannon 9-7 to round out day one with one game still left to go on the weekend.

How It Happened

First Game

Mercyhurst traveled to West Virginia to participate in another WWPA regular season tournament and take on opponents from WWPA East. In their first match of the day the Lakers started strong as they won the first quarter, 4-3. Unfortunately, the Tigers came back in the second and took a one-goal lead before halftime with the score standing at 5-4 in favor of Salem.

The Lakers tried their best, but Salem held on to their lead for the rest of the match, and eventually won it by a score of 12-10. Hanna Good led the charge with three goals, and was helped by Allie Dombkowski and Alexa Corrao with two each.

Second Game

The second match of the day was very similar, as the Golden Knights won the first half, 5-4. The Lakers fought hard in the second half as the game was tight and both teams battled for every ball.

Eventually, Mercyhurst fell short and despite two goals from Sara Marin and Dombkowski they came short, 9-7.

What's Next

The Lakers return to the pool tomorrow morning to take on McKendree at 9:00 a.m. to round out their regular season schedule. They look to the WWPA Conference Tournament which takes place from April 28th through the 30th in O'Fallon, Ill.
