Box Score 2 Springfield, OH – Women's Water Polo dominates Wittenberg Invite as they triumph in both games played. The Lakers defeated Wittenberg by a score of 12-10 and followed that with another win against Washington & Jefferson, 10-5.
First Game
The Lakers started the day well as Sara Marin netted the first goal of the matchup with Wittenberg and she was followed by Allie Dombkowski with another goal just 40 seconds later to make it 2-0. Mercyhurst kept applying pressure, but their opponents stayed right behind, with the Lakers eventually winning the first half, 6-5.
The Tigers tied the game up to begin the second, but Hanna Good netted the goal right after that, 7-6. The Lakers went on a run in the last minute of the third quarter as Ava Gebhardt and Molly Langridge scored for the Lakers, 10-8.
Wittenberg tried to come back in the fourth, but Mercyhurst played great defensively and finished the game winning by a score 12-10.
Second Game
Mercyhurst returned to the pool right after the game to take on Washington & Jefferson in their second matchup of the day. Once again, the Lakers jumped out to a lead in the first quarter, as Rachel Vlieststra started the scoring run with a nice goal, 1-1. Good and Dombkowski continued what she started and Langridge opened the second quarter with a goal, 4-1.
The Lakers won the first half by a score of 4-2, and didn't slow down in the second, as they also won the second. Mercyhurst eventually won the game by a score of 10-5.
Highlights
Sara Marin and Hanna Good led the charge in the first game of the day as they netted three goals each. Rachel Vlieststra, Grace Brzyski and Molly Langdridge dominated in the second one as they scored two goals each. Marley Ramon registered 16 saves on the day in the Mercyhurst goal.
What's Next
The Lakers are scheduled to travel to Bowling Green, Oh. to play Case Western Reserve and Bowling Green on Saturday, March 25th, in a pair of exhibitions. They are also set to co-host the WWPA Conference Weekend starting on Saturday, April 1st.
