Men's Soccer Hosts Pair of Home Games

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team will host two home games this week as they welcome in Daemen on Wednesday, followed by Slippery Rock on Saturday for Homecoming.    

  1. History Lesson 

In the past two seasons, the Lakers are 2-0 against Daemen.  Daemen traveled to Erie last year, where the Lakers were able to come away with the win 1-0.  The Lakers traveled to Daemen in 2021, where they came away with a 4-1 win.  The Lakers swept the season series a year ago against Slippery Rock, winning 3-0 and 4-0.       

  1. A Look Back 

The Lakers are coming off a week where they went 1-1 with a 5-1 loss to Gannon and a 3-0 win against Seton Hill.  The loss to Gannon was the Lakers' first loss of the season after starting the season 6-0.  The lone Laker goal in the loss was from Dylan Sumner on a penalty kick.  The Lakers were able to bounce back with a win over Seton Hill.  After a slow first half, the Lakers got on the board three times, from three different people.  Dylan Sumner, Jorge Tallada Torres, and Ignacio Gallego all scored in the win.       

  1. Stats Leaders 

Dylan Sumner is the leader in goals with five.  Sumner has found a groove as of late, scoring in three of the last four games.  Jorge Tallada Torres and Andreas Rossak are tied for second with four goals.  Tallada Torres has scored four times in the last four games.  Andreas Rossak and Frank Lovett are tied for the team lead in assists with three.      

  1. PSAC Standings 

The Lakers started PSAC play 1-1 which puts them in a tie for second in the PSAC West, only behind Gannon who is 2-0 in PSAC play.  The leader in the East is West Chester with a record of 4-1.   

  1. A Look at the Opponent 

Daemen is 2-5-1 so far this season, coming off a loss to the District of Columbia.  Elijah Douglas is the leader for Daemen in goals with three.  They have seven different players who have tallied an assist on the season.  Slippery Rock is 2-3-3 on the season with wins over Daemen and Pitt-Johnstown.  Arturo Pla Hernandis is the leader in goals with five.  Ignacio Rullan is the leader in assists with two. 

Kick-off for the Daemen game is set for 7:30 PM on Wednesday.  The game against Slippery Rock is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Saturday.
