The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team hosts Bowling Green in its Centennial Game on Saturday, September 19th, at 6 p.m. at Saxon Stadium. The match is the first-ever meeting between the two programs and a highlight of the 2026 schedule.
A Century of Mercyhurst
Mercyhurst is marking 100 years, and the Lakers will play in front of returning alumni, families and students as the campus celebrates its centennial. Homecoming & Family Weekend runs Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20. The Centennial Game was a highlight of the men's soccer schedule when it was released in July.
Mercyhurst Lakers
Mercyhurst comes into this matchup off a 1-0 win at Robert Morris on Monday. Ronny Wakelin scored the only goal late in the first half, heading in a cross from Harrison Hubert. The Lakers then leaned on their defense through the second half and did not allow a shot on target. Since a 2-0 loss to Drexel on Aug. 23, Mercyhurst has gone 3-0-2 in its last five, with wins over Cleveland State, Canisius and Robert Morris and draws against Detroit Mercy and Niagara. Alvar Silva leads the attack with four goals and nine points, including two game-winners. In goal, Jaime Tedaldi has started six of seven matches, with 25 saves, two shutouts and a 1.50 goals-against average. Mercyhurst's only losses came against Penn State and Drexel, and the Lakers now sit at 3-2-2.
Bowling Green Falcons
BGSU enters at 1-5-1 after a 1-0 loss at Milwaukee on Tuesday, when the Panthers scored with one second remaining. Four of the Falcons' five losses were scoreless through at least 75 minutes, and nine of the 12 goals they have allowed came in the 76th minute or later. Their lone win was a 5-2 victory over Wright State in the season opener, and they battled DePaul to a 2-2 draw on Sept. 11. Freshman Lucas Brinkman leads the team with two goals and five points, and Trace Terry also has two goals. Tyson McCoy leads the team with 22 shots, adding a goal and an assist. Senior keeper Enzo Gil has started all seven matches, with 21 saves and a 1.71 goals-against average. The Falcons have started at least three freshmen in every match this season and are set to open Missouri Valley Conference play next Friday against Western Michigan.
