ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst played Bowling Green to a 0-0 tie on Saturday. The Lakers withstood four Bowling Green attacking actions from 71:59 to 83:00 in the second half without conceding.
The Lakers' kept Bowling Green off the board in the first half despite facing a late push that included a corner kick and four shots from the 34:51 mark through 39:37. Earlier, Benjamin Buckley put the Lakers' lone shot on frame in the 12th minute, forcing a save during a physical opening stretch. Christoffer Kalkar helped preserve the shutout with saves on back-to-back Bowling Green shots in the 37th minute. The half ended with another run of fouls from both sides, and the Lakers went into halftime tied 0-0.
The Lakers kept the match scoreless through a second half that included a saved 77th-minute penalty kick for Alvar Silva and a late stretch of Bowling Green set pieces. Earlier, Kalkar saved a shot in the 47th minute, and the Lakers' first look came when Ryan Tappouras missed left in the 57th. The Lakers generated pressure around the 73rd and 74th minutes, with Silva forcing a save between two corner kicks before his penalty kick was also stopped. The Lakers' then dealt with three Bowling Green corners from 80:29 to 83:00 during a physical stretch that included yellow cards to Jacob Anderson and Idahir Deanda. The Lakers pushed again in the final two minutes, with Harrison Hubert's shot saved, a corner at 89:11 and Buckley shooting right, but the half and match ended 0-0.
