Box Score 2 Erie, PA – Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo finished the second day of Conference Crossover Tournament with two losses, falling to Bucknell 23-5 and to Johns Hopkins 19-8.
How It Happened
The Lakers continued their busy weekend with two more games on Sunday, September 25
th. Cheered on by the home crowd, Mercyhurst started their matchup with Bucknell on fire, as they took 2-1 lead in the first quarter. However, after that the tables turned, as the Bisons dominated the rest of the first half, leading 12-3 going into the break. The Lakers fought hard in the second half, but they couldn't stop their opponents.
Danilo Vujovic led the team with two goals and
Tony Golin recorded 13 saves.
In their second match of the day, the green and white took on Johns Hopkins. The game also started well for the Lakers, as Vujovic and
Reed Bearden put the Lakers in the 2-0 lead within first two minutes of the game.
Nonetheless the Blue Jays didn't give up and finished the first half with a 14-3 lead. Despite great efforts and the fourth quarter won by two goals, the Lakers lost the the game by a score of 19-8. Once again Golin's spectacular saves were key on defensive side of the pool, as he finished the game with 14 saves. Bearden recorded three goals and Vujovic added two.
Derek Kagen, Nate Chaney and
Nicholas Miller scored one goal each.
What's Next
The Lakers are set to participate in Penn State Behrend Tournament next weekend. They take on Washington & Jefferson and Cornell on Saturday, September 30
th. They are scheduled to play Buffalo and Penn State Behrend the following day.
