Lakers Drop MAWPC Match Against Mount St. Mary's (Md.)

Emmitsburg, Md. – The Mercyhurst men's water polo team continued MAWPC play as they faced off against Mount St. Mary's. In a competitive match, the Lakers were defeated by the Mountaineers 20-11.
 
In the first quarter, the Mountaineers opened up with a 2-0 lead, but that was broken by a goal from Keller Sens to narrow the lead to one. The Mountaineers continued to display their offense, with three consecutive goals to extend their lead 5-1. The Lakers kept themselves in the game with a goal from Daniel Goldgisser. Mount St. Mary's followed up with another goal, but the Lakers scored two consecutive goals. Goals from Luke Larson and Aiden Botterill narrowed the Lakers' deficit 6-4.
 
In the second quarter, the Mountaineers continued their scoring with five goals, going into the half with a 11-4 lead.
 
In the third quarter, Mount St. Mary's opened up the quarter with a goal, but a goal from Sens kept the Lakers in the mix. The Mountaineers combated with another goal, ending the third quarter with 13-5 lead.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers opened up with a goal, but the Lakers quickly responded thanks to a goal from Declan Puacz. Three consecutive goals from the Mountaineers helped them extend their lead, but the Lakers would not back down without a fight. Caden Stover scored a goal for the Lakers to narrow the deficit to nine. The Mountaineers got that goal back, and then some, scoring three consecutive to extend their lead. The Lakers scored two back-to-back goals, thanks to Puacz and Stover, who both scored their second goals of the game. Mount St. Mary's scored once more, but Puacz tallied another goal for the hat trick. The Mountaineers held onto victory, winning 20-11.
 
The Lakers resume play on November 2nd when they play Penn State Behrend at 2:30 p.m.
