BRONX, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Men's water polo team continued MAWPC play when they faced off against Fordham. The Lakers were defeated 26-7 in their penultimate game of the season.
In the first quarter, the Rams opened up to a 3-0 lead, until Aiden Botterill got on the board for the Lakers. Fordham continued with their scoring with four consecutive goals. The Lakers scored with less than a minute left thanks to
Nate Cheney, going into the second quarter trailing 7-2.
In the second quarter, Fordham continued displaying their offense with another four goals.
Caden Stover scored a goal for the Lakers, to narrow the deficit to eight. The Rams proceeded to score three more goals, entering halftime with a 14-3 lead.
In the third quarter, the Rams scored four more goals, until that scoring run was stopped by another goal from Botterill. Fordham immediately responded with a goal, but with less than thirty seconds left,
Keller Sens scored for Mercyhurst.
In the fourth quarter, Fordham continued their scoring with a goal. However, the Lakers quickly countered with a goal of their own, coming from
Ben Gavran. The Rams went on another scoring run, with six straight goals coming from them. Mercyhurst kept battling, with a goal coming from
Declan Puacz. Fordham was able to hold on to their lead and win the game 26-7.
The Lakers play their final game of the season when they go to Staten Island to face off against Wagner on November 9
th at 10:30 a.m.
