Lakers Drop Season Finale Against Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Men's water polo team played their final game of the season when they squared off against MAWPC opponent Wagner. The Lakers ultimately fell short, with a final score of 19-7.
 
In the first quarter, Wagner opened up the scoring in the game with a goal within the first minute of the quarter. Mercyhurst responded with a goal of their own coming from Aiden Botterill. The Seahawks countered with back-to-back goals 10 seconds apart from each other, extending their lead 3-1. The Lakers halted this run with a goal coming from Luke Larson, narrowing the lead 3-2. Wagner continued their scoring run with back-to-back goals, but that was stopped by Ben Gavran, narrowing the Lakers' deficit 5-3 going into the second quarter.
 
In the second quarter, Mercyhurst and Wagner traded goals within the first minute of the quarter. Daniel Goldgisser scored for the Lakers, narrowing the Seahawks lead 6-4. Wagner proceeded to five more goals, ending the quarter with a 11-4 lead.
 
In the third quarter, the Lakers scored first thanks to a goal from Larson, his second of the game. Wagner responded with two goals of their own, extending their lead to eight. Mercyhurst responded with another goal from Gavran, his second of the game. With 10 seconds remaining, Wagner scored a goal to take 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks opened up with a goal to extend their lead. The Lakers quickly responded with a goal from Keller Sens. Wagner proceeded to score four more goals, holding onto a 19-7 lead giving them the victory.
 
The Lakers continue their season when they play in the MAWPC Conference Championship against Navy on Friday, Nov. 21 at 4:30 p.m. in The Bronx, N.Y.
