Erie, PA – The Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo team competes this week in a conference crossover weekend. The games will be held at the Hallman Aquatic Center in Erie, Pa. On Saturday, the Lakers play Mount St. Mary's (MD.) at 1 p.m. and George Washington University at 6:20 p.m. Then on Sunday they will face Bucknell University at 10:20 a.m. and John Hopkins University in the afternoon at 2:20 p.m.
This week Tony Golin earned PPG's Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the Bison Invitational.
Last Weekend in Lewisburg
Mercyhurst faced Johns Hopkins University and Mount St. Mary's (MD.) last weekend at the Bison Invitational. The Lakers fell to John Hopkins 7-13. Golin managed to make 23 saves. Danilo Vujovic and Owen Hardner scored three goals apiece. The Lakers also conceded to Mount. St. Mary's (MD.) Vujovic scored 7 goals in this game and Reed Bearden added two more to the score board. Golin recorded 11 saves.
In the other two games the Lakers conceded defeats to Salem University and McKendree. Salem took a quick 14-7 lead in the first half. The game ended with a score of 21-12 to Salem. Vujovic and Derek Kagen both recorded four goals each and Golin had 25 saves. Against McKendree, the Lakers managed to score 12 goals in the second half but still couldn't catch up to the 21 goals McKendree had.
On Sept. 20 the Lakers play in the Penn State Behrend Tournament in Erie.
