Erie, Pa – The Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo team returns to action this Saturday, September 3
rd. The Lakers are set to travel to Washington, PA to play four games in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational Tournament.
New Beginnings
Petar Momcilovic enters his first full season as the Men's and Women's Water Polo Head Coach for Mercyhurst. He is well-known on campus, after he served as a graduate assistant coach at Mercyhurst during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. During his time as a graduate assistant, he helped coach the men's team to a 22-28 record and the women's team to 14-29 over those two years. The men's 13-11 record in the 2018 season was the program's best record since 2013. Momcilovic brings a lot of experience from coaching at every level from the U12 age group to international competition. He is joined by graduate assistants
Chloe Woodbine and Blair MacDougall.
New Faces
The Lakers welcome five new faces. Incoming freshman are going to learn from experienced teammates, such as
Derek Kagen,
Joel Parnell, and
Teagan Thomas who all return. Transition to college water polo is not always easy, but Coach Momcilovic is confident in their ability to adapt and be a key part of the team right from the start. New players are set to positively impact winning and be the team's foundation for years to come.
