Erie, Pa.—Mercyhurst Women's Hockey Head Coach Michael Sist has announced the incoming class of players for the 2022-23 season. The group of nine includes two graduate transfers and seven freshmen.
Riley Johnson | Forward | Farmington, MI | Freshman
Johnson joins the Lakers a true freshman and will look to add to the Lakers forward group that enters next season with a mix of experience and youth. The Farmington native has been a member of the Honeybaked 19u team for the last two seasons.
Makayla Javier | Defense | West Chester, Pa. | Freshman
After playing in the Philadelphia Jr Flyers program for the last three seasons, Javier joins the Laker defense core. With the Jr. Flyers she was a leader within the program and served as an assistant captain. In 2018 she attended the USA Hockey Girls 15 Player Development Camp.
Megan McKay | Defense | Zionsville, IN | Freshman
McKay comes to Erie from Zionsville, IN after playing minor hockey for Bishop Kearny Selects 19u for the last two season. She will join the Laker defense core that lost three defenders last season due to graduation.
Jade Maisonneuve| Forward | St-Isidore, ON| Freshman
Massaniuve comes to the states after playing for the Nepean Wildcats. Prior to making the jump to collegiate hockey she participated in the Ontario Summer games as well as the World Selects Invitational Tournament in Prague.
Grace Romeo | Forward | Gainesville, Va. | Freshman
Last season Romeo played for the Washington Pride 19u team while being part of the program starting in 2018 at 16u. In 2021-22 she played in 58 games for the Pride and scored 27 times while also adding 21 assists. She was fourth on the team in points and third on the team in goals.
Sami Gendron | Forward | Rockland, ON | Freshman
Gendron comes to Mercyhurst after completing her minor hockey career with the Nepean Wildcats of the OWHL. In 27 games she netted two goals and 10 assists in the U22 league. In 2021 she was a Rush Hockey High Performance Champion while also playing in the 2019 World Selects Invitational in Sweden.
Thea Johansson | Forward | Ljungby, Sweden | Freshman
The final freshman comes to North America after competing in Sweden along with on the world stage. Johansson is a member of the Swedish National Team while also playing for HV71 of the SDHL. She has played in 58 games for Sweden in multiple tournaments including the World Jr. Championships.
Jada Brenon | Goalie | Pendleton, N.Y. | Graduate Student
Brenon played the first four seasons of college hockey at Holy Cross. At Holy Cross she played in 98 career games while setting the school record for career saves with 3,078. She is also the Hockey East career leader in saves during conference games with 2,668.
Frankie Sanchez | Goalie | Lake Elsinore, Calif. | Graduate Student
Like Brenon, Sanchez has played college hockey for four seasons. Starting her career at Sacred Heart Sanchez has played in 79 career games and was the primary goalie for Sacred Heart this season. In 29 games (all starts) she had a 2.10 goals against average and a .928 save percentage.
