Metzler, Kim to Compete in 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship with Hungary and South Korea

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Regina Metzler and Nayeon Kim are already lacing up their skates again to compete with their national teams in the IIHF Women's World Championships. Metzler will represent Hungary in Division I, Group A. This competition is in Budapest. Kim will represent South Korea in Group B in Puigcerda, Spain.
 
Metzler has been playing for Hungary in some capacity since the 2019-20 season. She began her international career with the U18s, where she picked up a goal and an assist in her first five games. She has now played in 113 games with both the U18s and the senior team. In those games, she has 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points. The Budapest native recently lifted the Wörthersee Trophy in Austria with Hungary. They defeated Slovakia, Norway, and Denmark to secure the trophy. Metzler had a game-winning goal in the semifinals and recorded an assist in each of the other two games. 
 
Kim began her South Korean career in the 2021-22 season with the U18s. In nine games, she recorded three assists and three points. This tournament will actually mark Kim's senior debut with the senior team. 
 
For Mercyhurst, these two were important contributors to the Lakers' success. Metzler scored seven goals, recorded 17 assists, and was fourth on the team with 24 points. She also had 20 blocks, which was second on the team among all forwards. Kim was tied for sixth on the team with 12 assists and she scored four goals. She did all this while playing in 28 of the Lakers' 37 games.  
 
Both groups of this tournament will play from April 12 to April 18.
