Shamokin Dam, PA—The Mercyhurst Rowing teams started their spring season on Saturday as they traveled to Bucknell to take on the Bisons, Lehigh, and Michigan.
Mercyhurst won their first race against Bucknell in the Men's 1V as they turned in a time of 6:29 to defeat Bucknell.
In the first women's race for the Lakers they defeated Lehigh in varsity eights as they turned in a time of 7:28.1 which was 13 seconds faster than the Mountain Hawk boat. The women's fours took back-to-back-to-back wins with times of 7:51.1, 7:39.4, and 9:00.2 The wins came over Division I opponents Michigan, Bucknell, and Lehigh.
After the break, the Lakers notched back-to-back single wins. The men put up a time of 6:12.0 and beat Lehigh by 15 seconds. The women had two boats in the water and finished first and third and finished with times of 7:20.9 and 7:46.5.
The Lakers defeated Michigan in two races with times of 7:41.7 and 7:27.9 both boats came across the finish line by at least 15 seconds of the Wolverines.
In the final race of the day, the women's fours team beat Lehigh by just under 25 seconds with a time of 9:52.5.
Next week the men's teams travel to New York City for the East Coast Classic hosted by Columbia. The women are back in the water on April 9th and 10th as they compete in the Knecht Cup.
