Springfield, Ohio—The Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo team swam away with their first victory of the season as they split their day at the Wittenberg Invite with a 12-8 win over the hosts and an 11-5 loss to Mount St. Mary's.
Against The Mount
The Lakers played a relatively even first half against Mount St. Mary's as they finished down by just one, 4-3. The teams traded off the first two goals in the second half, but three unanswered goals by The Mount helped put the game out of reach as the Lakers tried to catch up in the final frame.
Against Wittenberg
The Lakers were in the driver's seat from the outset, holding a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. Each team scored three goals in the second frame to give Mercyhurst an 8-5 lead at the half.
After jumping back into the pool, Mercyhurst put two more on the board before the Tigers could get on the board. Both teams would add another before the end of the third quarter. Wittenberg scored the lone goal in the final frame to bring the final to 12-8.
