ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst university wrestling team grappled their way to a 39-2 victory on Friday evening over No. 9 Findlay in the teams second to last dual meet of the 2021-22 season. The Lakers (11-5, 5-1 PSAC) collected wins in nine of ten bouts over the Oilers in the top 20 dual between the two schools.
Jacob Ruggeri started off the scoring as he collected a close 4-3 decision win at 125, redshirt junior
Eric Bartos followed with a 9-1 major decision in his 133 pound bout to extend the Lakers early lead to 7-0.
At 141, it was
Alexis Soriano who picked up a huge 2-1 decision victory over No. 2 Branson Proudlock. Sorinao got his revenge against Findlay's 141 pounder who defeated Soriano back in early January at the NWCA National Duals.
Two Laker freshmen earned wins in the ensuing 149 and 157 bouts.
Mike Zacur slipped away with a 7-1 sudden victory, and Stedeford followed with a technical fall in the 157 pound bout.
At 165
Michael Clark held on for a 5-2 decision victory over Findlay's Alexander Isbrandt, following Clark was
Dillon Walker who pinned Justin West at the 1:53 mark into the first period.
Hunter Harnish rounded out the action at 197 with a fall of his own over Jacob Charette four minutes and forty seconds into their bout. At heavyweight
Jacob Robb earned a forfeit victory for the Lakers to give them the final 39-2 scoreline.
Up next, the Lakers will host their senior day tomorrow at the MAC as they host No. 13 Pitt-Johnstown at one o'clock.
