Wrestling Opens New Season at Bob Del Rosa Open

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Mercyhurst wrestling team competed in their first tournament of the year Sunday afternoon at Case Western in Cleveland. The Bob Del Rosa Open was highlighted by freshman Maxx Fesinger who took third place in the 174 lbs freshman and sophomore bracket.
 
Fesinger started the day strong with a 15-0 tech fall in the opening round of competition. He followed that up with an 11-1 major decision over Baldwin Wallace's Cole Porter to advance to the semifinals.
 
The freshman dropped the semifinals match by a score of 10-2, falling into the third place match which he dropped to Gannon's Mitchell Baronner.
 
Keith Mincin wrestled his way into the third place match for the Lakers at 165 lbs but ultimately fell to Ashland's Zander Graham. Mincin recorded a 7-3 decision in his first match before falling 18-4 in the semifinals.
 
Jaden Reagle also competed at 165 for the Lakers.
 
Also competing in the freshman and sophomore bracket was Xavier Dombkowski at 157 lbs. Dombkowski dropped the opening match of the tournament, but he came back to win his first consolation bout 14-1. Dombkowksi bowed out of the tournament in the consolation round of 16.
 
At 141 lbs, sophomore Marcus Colson posted a 3-0 win in the first match of the day. He fell to the consolation bracket in the next match and ultimately dropped his consolation match 8-1.
 
Colin Scherer and Noah Adamson both competed at 149 lbs. The sophomores both fell in consecutive matches, ending their run in the tournament.
 
Gino Guerrisi and Joey Baronick both wrestled in the heavyweight bracket, meeting in the consolation round of eight. Baronick took an 11-0 win over Guerrisi before falling in the next match.
 
Travis Browing competed at 125 lbs while Edwin Mooney entered the 133 bracket.
 
Brady Fitz and Jake LeClerc represented Mercyhurst in the 174 and 184 brackets respectively while sophomore Joshua Johnson-Cantrell competed at 197 lbs.
 
The Lakers are back in action at the Army Open next Sunday, Nov. 16.
