Men's Water Polo Falls to Navy

Box Score New York, NY – Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo falls in the first round of Mid-Atlantic Championships to Navy. The Midshipmen win the match by a score of 21-9.
 
How It Happened
The Lakers traveled to New York City to round out their 2022-23 campaign with the last tournament. They came into the competition as the 11th seed and were set to take on Nave ranked as the 6th seed.
 
Mercyhurst started the match slowly, as the Midshipmen took an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lakers worked hard to come back from the deficit, but they went into the break loosing 13-3.
 
The second half was much better by the Mercyhurst squad, as they improved their defense and allowed five goals in the third quarter, and only three in the fourth. Despite that, the Lakers couldn't get back into the game, as they eventually lost by a score of 21-9.
 
By The Numbers
Owen Hardner led the charge with five goals and was helped by Danilo Vujovic, Brian Cumby, Reed Bearden, and Derek Kagen with one goal each. Tony Golin recorded eight saves in the Mercyhurst's goal and Parker Wood had nine of the bench.
