Box Score Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo wraps up their time in the CWPA DII Championships with a loss to McKendree Sunday morning. The two teams met up inside the Hallman Aquatic Center with the Bearcats able to take home the 13-6 win.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst got out to the early lead with Joe Reinsma getting the first goal of the game with 6:08 to go in the first period. The Bearcats were able to respond, though, with them knotting things up with less than a minute to go in the quarter. McKendree found themselves on the power play and did not waste it as Breno Tebet found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
McKendree found their groove in the second quarter, scoring five times. The Lakers did manage to score once as they tried to keep pace with their counterpart. This time around it was Danilo Vujovic who got the goal with Derek Karen on the other end with the assist. That lone Mercyhurst goal of the second canto wasn't enough to help Mercyhurst to stick with the Bearcats as the Lakers found themselves down 6-2 at halftime.
The third period was more of the same with McKendree taking the stanza 4-1. The Lakers did manage to stay even with their opponent in the final period of play with both teams scoring three goals. Joel Parnell got the scoring started for the Lakers in the fourth off an assist from JP Kirouac while Vujovic got his second and third goals of the game down the stretch. Unfortunately, the Laker's efforts were not enough in helping them get the win with the final score holding at 13-6.
