Ithaca, N.Y. - Mercyhurst Women's Hockey hits the road for the second straight weekend with them set to play Cornell on the road. The first game of the series begins on Friday, October 21st with a start time of 6:00 p.m. while puckdrop is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
1. Turning The Tide
Mercyhurst enters the weekend with a matchup against Cornell who holds a 5-10-4 record against the Lakers all-time. Mercyhurst has been on the road for many of their recent matchups with the team playing four consecutive away games in the series. The Lakers last win came on 10/23/21 when the team won 3-2 with Sara Boucher scoring the game-winning goal on a power play in the 12th minute of the third period.
2. Big Time Boucher
Sara Boucher is coming off a weekend in which she was named the CHA Forward of the Week. The junior scored two goals on the week against RPI with one in each game while adding an assist in the second game of the doubleheader for a total of three points on the weekend. It was the seventh time in her career she has been recognized by the conference.
3. League Leaders
Thea Johansson sits tied for second in the conference in goals scored with three while Liliane Perreault and Sydney Pederson join her on the leaderboard at second for assists with four. Chantal set-Croix sits fourth in the CHA for shot percentage with a mark of .250 with a trio of goals on 12 shots. Jada Brenon is first among goalies in goals allowed with just one for a 0.28 goals against average and a save percentage of .989 for tops in the CHA.
4. Looking for Four
The Lakers may be extra motivated to win the weekend opener against Cornell as it would give them a four-game win streak, which has proven elusive. Mercyhurst has not won four games in a row since the 2019-20 season in which they went 21-10-5, defeating Sacred Heart and RIT in back-to-back series while outscoring the two teams 24-5 including two shutouts.
5. Total Team Effort
Mercyhurst has used a team-oriented approach at the beginning of the season to help them move to 5-3-0. 10 different Lakers have scored this season with seven of them scoring multiple goals, showing how deep Head Coach Michael Sisti's team is. The sharing of the puck extends past scoring as 16 skaters have recorded an assist with seven of them having two or more.
