Men's Water Polo Prepares for CWPA D2 Championships

Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo returns to action this weekend as they participate in CWPA D2 Championships. The Lakers take on Gannon on Friday, October 21st at 7:00 PM, and follow that with a game against Salem on Saturday, October 22nd at 5:40 PM. They finish the tournament on Sunday, October 23rd with an early match against McKendree at 8:00 AM. The tournament is hosted by Gannon in Hallman Aquatic Centre and is set to determine East Coast Division II Champion.
 
Individual Leaders
Danilo Vujovic leads the charge for the Lakers with 34 goals and four assists this season, as he is helped by Reed Bearden with 14 goals. Teagan Thomas leads the team in assists with 13 of them, and he also recorded 12 goals. Tony Golin's outstanding play in the goal has been the key to the Laker's defensive performance, as he recorded 165 saves this season.
 
Scouting The Opponents
The matchup with crosstown-rival Gannon is set to be an important challenge for Mercyhurst, as both teams haven't played each other this season. The Golden Knights come into the game with 4-12 overall record and 1-6 conference one. Alex Kotskar leads his team in goals with 60 on the season, and he is followed by Drago Marjanovic with 26 goals.
 
McKendree is a well-balanced team with a plethora of experienced players. In the last matchup with McKendree, the Lakers lost by a score of 21-12. Nico Rodriguez leads the punch for the Bearcats with 19 goals, and he is helped by Breno Tabet, scorer of 16 goals.
 
Salem is coming into the weekend with 9-11 overall record, and 3-4 conference record. They are a high scoring team, as their leader Nikola Krstonosic recorded as many as 79 goals so far this season. Marko Zivojinovic scored 54 goals and his brother Ivan Zivojinovic added 49.
 
What's Next
The Lakers are scheduled to travel to Lebanon, IL on Saturday, November 5th to participate in CWPA Conference Weekend Torunament.
