ERIE, Pa – The No. 19 Mercyhurst wrestling team grappled their way to a 32-10 win over the visiting East Stroudsburg Warriors on Sunday afternoon inside of the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
With the win the Lakers improve to 6-5 in dual meets this season and 2-1 in PSAC play.
The Lakers took eight of the ten bouts over the Warriors including two forfeits.
Jacob Ruggeri opened up the PSAC dual with a 3-0 decision over Joshua Jasionwicz to give the Lakers an early 3-0 lead. Mike Santillanes followed by winning a thrilling 7-5 decision in overtime to give Mercyhurst a 6-0 advantage.
After East Stroudsburg fought back to take a 10-6 lead, the Lakers would not give up any more points as they went on to win the final six bouts.
Max Stedeford earned a major decision victory to tie things back up at 10 all. Then, Mike Clark gave Mercyhurst a three point lead after he defeated Luke Ciampa by decision, 9-7.
Dillon Walker continued his impressive freshman campaign as he rolled through Sczar Cahrles earning a 15-4 major decision at 174.
Brent Burbules closed out the action when he produced a 9-4 decision victory over Josh Leidig. The final two bouts resulted in forfeit victories for the Lakers producing the final 32-10 score.
Up next, the Lakers will travel to Millersville next Friday to continue their run of PSAC opponents. The dual will begin at 6 o'clock.
